Position breakdown: Cornerbacks

It is full-steam ahead on the 2024 season for Purdue, as Ryan Walters looks to take the next step in the evolution of his program in Year Two.

This is the ninth in a series of position-by-position breakdowns of the 2024 Purdue team, which starts spring football on March 19.

NOTES:

• Purdue added a potential gem in Nyland Green, a transfer from Georgia whose combination of size and speed makes him ideal to excel in the press-man coverage this staff likes to run. He could be CB1.

• Colorado transfer Kyndrich Breedlove has been there and one that, beginning his career at Ole Miss. He has a long relationship with Purdue CB coach Sam Carter. He may be the fastest DB on the roster.

• Markevious Brown ended up being a key member of the secondary after arriving from Ole Miss. He plays with plenty of swagger.

• No corner plays with attitude and panache than Derrick Rogers, who was thrust into a significant role as a true freshman after injury struck the position. The staff thinks Rogers has a bright future.

• This could shape up as a make-or-break spring for Salim Turner-Muhammad, who didn’t play a snap in 2023 after arriving as a transfer from Stanford. Can he scratch out a role after a hamstring injury sidelined him?

• Botros Alisandro was a late-arriving addition from the JC ranks last year who ended up playing in all 12 games. He’s better than you think.

• The “star” spot probably will come from CB room.
